polarity of the signal and orientation of the coil

Hello,

I am new with the ardumower so I am sorry if the topic isn’t in the right category. In the second version of the perimeter sender / receiver, a code is transmitted by the sender, to optimize the signal. Also the detection of inside or outside the wire can be done with the code. However the polarity of the signal is due to the orientation of the coil, am I right? So the mower can only detect if the mower crosses the wire and not if the robot is inside or outside?

So if you start the robot outside the wire it cannot detect if it's inside or outside??

I hope you guys understand my question.

Best regards
Matthijs

Ps. es tut mir leid meine Deutsch is nicht so gut.
But you can aswer in Deutsch if you want

Btw, you can see that it actually works here:
http://www.grauonline.de/alexwww/ardumower/filter/filter.html
1. Choose the perimeter signal at the right side (Set slider 'example signals': pseudonoise4_pw).
2. Increase the noise a little bit (Set slider 'noise' to 2).
3. At the left bottom plot ('Matched filter') you can see that the repeated signal was detected 3 times.
4. Now simulate moving the coil outside of the perimeter wire. Click on 'Invert' to set amplifcation to '-1'. The matched filter results a negative match.

This is how we can detect the inside/outside state at any time :)

Hello Alexander,

Thanks a lot for your explanation, it helps a lot.

However when you rotate your coil 180 degrees, the polarity inverses also. In the matched filter simulation you also inverts the signal to detect if you are inside or outside.

Thanks a lot for your response

Hello Matthijs,

You are right, of course the polarity also changes when rotating the coil 180 degrees.

Idea: do you think you could make a simple drawing (for example, perimeter wire in cross section, coil inside) and that also visualizes the electric flux lines of the perimeter and how they hit the coil?

For interested people, such a drawing would easily explain the reason for the polarity change when moving the coil from inside to outside.

Such drawing could then be added to the Wiki too (you could easily register there and edit the perimeter page).

Thanks,
Alexander

Hello,

I will try to make such a drawing,
But that means in a start position you cannot detect if you are inside or outside the wire, because it is depended of the orientation of the coil?

Here a simple drawing is this what you meant?
I made an account but I couldnot figue it out how to upload an image

Yes, correct. Excellent drawing! Your help is highly appreciated :)

PS: There's a menu item ("upload file / Datei hochladen") at the right bottom.
